Culture of Care

• School and classroom environments designed to focus on student well-being
• Social emotional learning skills are modeled, practiced, and taught by both staff and students
• Increased mental health supports
• Needed student supports identified and connections made to appropriate resource providers
• Clear crisis response procedures available and known to all school staff

First Day of School

• September 1 for 1st-8th grade.
• September 9 for Kindergarten
• Start & End Times
• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
• 7:55 a.m. – 2:25 p.m.
• Wednesday Early Release
• 7:55 a.m. – 1:10 p.m.

Healthy and Safe Schools

• The State of Washington requires SPS to provide full-time, in-person learning this coming school year.  
• Closure of a school or classroom will be done in partnership and in response to the expert guidance of Public Health.  

SPS will continue to follow Washington Dept. of Health (DOH) requirements.

Masks required for students, staff, visitors, and volunteers.

Handwashing throughout the day.

Protected Health Care Room, a COVID Site Supervisor for each school, and contact tracing.

We are adding additional preventive health protocols in alignment with DOH guidance, including: 

• Launching a Healthy Schools Campaign
• Adding diagnostic COVID-19 testing
• External review of HVAC systems
• Vaccines mandated for all school staff (by Oct. 18), volunteers, and community providers.

What I do matters. What you do matters. What we do together matters most.

Keep your student home when they have a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, or new symptoms that are not caused by another condition. Keep your child home when they show signs of:

• Fever or chills 
• Cough 
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing 
• Fatigue 
• Muscle or body aches 
• Headache ​
• New loss of taste or smell ​
• Sore throat ​
• Congestion or runny nose ​
• Nausea or vomiting ​
• Diarrhea 

Transportation

• Regular transportation services will resume Fall 2021 for students that qualify for SPS transportation.
• Transportation information is sent directly to families from the Transportation Office.
• Qualifying for transportation is based on your student’s grade level and distance from school. 
• There may be delays on some yellow bus routes during the start of school while our vendor, First Student, hires and trains new drivers. 
• If you have moved or have a new contact phone number, please update your student’s information.
• For information about eligibility for ORCA cards and yellow bus transportation, please contact transportation via Let’s Talk.  

Health & Safety

SPS will meet or exceed the operational practices stated by the Department of Health to ensure effective air exchanges per hour per workspace which includes classrooms, cafeterias, gyms, libraries and main offices.

High touch surfaces cleaning and disinfecting occurs each night after students leave.

Before/After School

Students will be permitted on campus playground/blacktop before school (no earlier than 7:40 a.m.)

Students only will enter through the gates either from the south parking lot or from the park

The pathway from the park will be staffed by at least three staff or approved volunteers

K-5 Teachers will pick up their classes from the playground

Middle School Teacher will pick up their classes in front of the school (Greenwood Av side)

After school students will exit the campus through the gate and can be met by the big parking lot gate or the park gate.

Classrooms

Per Washington State, OSPI, Seattle Schools is required to provide in-person, full time learning to all PreK-12 students in 2021-22. Recommended physical distancing should be maintained to the extent possible, but the priority is making sure all students can attend in-person school.

Student desks/tables will be spaced 3 feet apart to the extent possible.

Desks/tables will face the same direction to the extent possible

Students will have assigned seating.

Specialists

Students will travel to specialists’ classes during the school day. This includes:

• Performing Arts
• Art
• PE
• Library

Devices

All students will have a device (iPad or laptop) checked out to them by the end of this week.

Meals

All students are eligible for FREE breakfast & lunch

Meals will be grab and go options

Students who need breakfast can collect them at by the K-5 or Middle School entrance

All seating will be staggered and distanced to the greatest extent possible

Students will keep their mask on when not eating

We will limit talking to when students are wearing a mask

Meetings

From September 1, 2021 until Friday, October 29, 2021– all SPS parent meetings with educators will be held virtually via TEAMs.

Visitors & Volunteers

From September 1, 2021 – October 29, 2021, the Broadview campus and building will be closed to visitors during the school day (7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

This includes parents dropping off or picking students up from school.

Parents who need to pick up or drop off a student during the school day will call the main office and be met at the front door by school staff.

Regular volunteers must have proof of vaccination as well as having completed the volunteer application

Performing Arts

• Aerosol-producing musicians, e.g., singers, woodwinds and brass, speech/debate, and theater performers are required to wear appropriate masks/face coverings and/or use appropriate bell covers while performing.
• There will be no indoor singing for K-5 students
• Universal masking with MERV13 or 3-layer medical face mask or similar material – is required in general music and elementary classrooms when singing is performed.
• For performances, audience members should be seated in “family units” and those small groups should be spaced at least 3 feet apart. All audience members must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.

Lunch at Broadview

• We will be utilizing our school cafeteria and some classrooms
• In the cafeteria students will be seated staggered at least 3 feet apart; and to the greatest extent possible.
• Students will keep their masks on when not eating.
• We will increase outdoor air flow when and where possible.
• We will limit talking to when students are wearing mask.
